Common Law Partners

In Canada, common law partners are individuals who have been living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year, without being married to each other or in a civil union. This relationship must be exclusive and committed, and the partners must have a shared responsibility for each other's basic needs and financial affairs. Common law partners are entitled to many of the same rights and benefits as married couples, including spousal support, property division, and inheritance rights.

A common-law partner, can either be of the opposite sex or same sex. This is considered if you have been living together in a conjugal relationship for not less than one year.
