Self-Employed Persons

This program is designed for individuals who have relevant experience in cultural activities, athletics or in managing a farm, and who intend to become self-employed in Canada in these areas.

This is a foreign national who:

  • Has relevant experience in his/her profession
  • Who intends and is able to be self-employed in Canada and
  • Who can contribute to Canada’s economy in one of the required areas indicated below.
  • Relevant experience for a self-employed person means at least two years of experience. It must be during the period starting five years before the day you apply and ending on the day we make a decision on your application.

The experience must be in the flowing:

Cultural Activities
Two one-year periods being self-employed in cultural activities, or two one-year periods participating at a world-class level in cultural activities, or a combination of a one-year period described in any of the mentioned activities.
Athletics Activities
Two one-year periods being self-employed in athletics, or two one-year periods participating at a world class level in athletics, or a combination of a one-year period described in any of the mentioned activities
Two One-Year Periods Managing a Farm
You will have to purchase and manage a farm in Canada
